More Powerful Than Drugs, Experts Say
This week I had the pleasure of giving a lecture on exercise for a group of close to 50 seniors. These lectures are always invigorating for me because as I’m doing them, I feel so grateful that I get to share truly LIFE changing information with people and call it “work”. I also love sharing my own personal story of how exercise changed my life as a teenager battling cancer. That always seems to connect with people and it takes my gratitude to an even higher level!
This particular lecture was on balance and fall prevention, which is a topic on many peoples minds. It was so fun to see the “light bulbs go off” as I shared scientific facts about how exercise is more powerful than any drug or therapy out there.
Want to hear something funny about my lectures? One thing that my audiences really enjoy is when I talk about aging. Surprising isn’t it!?
The reason they like it is because although I do give them the “bad news” about aging, which is that we will ALL have SOME age related declines, I also tell them the good news about aging-we can do something about it.
I explain to them how scientists are finding that exercise slows down and even reverses some of the effects of aging. I also explain that no matter what your age or health status, you can make a significant change in yourself through an increase in exercise, activity and movement.
When I think of this, I’m always reminded of an article I read a few years ago. It was one of the first mainstream articles I’d read on the latest science of exercise and it is written in a powerful, yet very lay friendly way.
I encourage you to check it out. It is called “The New Science of Exercise” from the September 12th, 2016 edition of Time Magazine.
If you already exercise, it will make you even more proud of what you’re doing for yourself. If you don’t exercise, it will give you some motivation to start. Check it out by clicking the link below:
Enjoy!
