The Calm IN The Storm

What a week to remember.

For those of us in Florida, our minds have been fixated on Hurricane Irma and thoughts of fear and anxiety over our lives, our health, our property and our loved ones have sometimes been overwhelming. It’s in times like this that we long to put our trust in someone or something bigger and stronger than us.

In addition to doing all the necessary storm preparations, this week I’ve been meditating on the goodness of God and how He has always been faithful to lead me through the “storms” of my life since I committed my life to Him on May 20th, 2006.  Now it’s time for Him to lead us through a literal storm.

I felt led to share with you a couple things that have been a great encouragement to me.

The first is Psalm 46

1 God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    He lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolation’s He has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    He burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

 And the second is a song based on this same Psalm.  I’ve probably listened to it 50 times over the past  two days.  I believe as you listen to it, He will give you peace.

 I will be praying for you here at my house but if you or a loved one would like someone to pray with personally, please call me.  I’ll make myself available as long as I have power.
